Synergy Project
this is a quick mock up, the color will look like the picture above. i will also make the cup holder as well(so people can use paper cup).
need some suggestions on the title page.
keep in mind the pages look like this. all the buildings will be bind the left side, the skies will be bind on the right side.
okay, so this is the basic idea of this “eyes” project. I will host an exhibition in SVA main building, all the walls in one classroom will have full installation of my “eyes” wallpaper(look like my last post); I will invite people to come draw on the wallpaper, and document the process before/during the exhibition. I am also thinking selling the T-shirt that has printed eyes on as well. I designed the promotion poster (11″X 17″) and an invitation (3″ X 3″). I might do the event this or the next Saturday. i’ve been binding this union square book in the past two days, here it is. overall i am satisfy with the result, but there are couple things need to be fix. like chris mentioned in my last post, there should be page numbers, i agree with that. also the paper stock i used is too heavy (65 lb), with perfect bond, it’s very hard to open that thick book. i also did the japanese binding, i couldn’t even lift a page, so i scratched out that option. my roommate suggested me do ring binding, but i will never do ring binding whatsoever, only if there is a way to find those ugly rings.
couple things needs help:
1. cover image or leave it the way it is?
2. need suggestion on ways to bind the book.
3. should i list all the questions and answers in a index page?
4. i am going to use thinner papers, would you prefer a thinner book or a thicker book?
i gather more questions and answers during spring break, and now they are printed and trimmed, ready to be bind.

looking for symbolic image, logo, typeface to draw in connecting the dots. need help on this.
Problem: use CHANCE, CONTROL, OVERLOOK(ED), SIMPLIFICATION, SYNERGY, and VOYEURISM in once sentence.
Rule: you can use the words in different form. for example, simplification=simplify; voyeurism=voyeur so on.
My first try:
Chance is a big factor that controls our lives, it’s subject often overlooked; that’s why we have to simplify our life, do not be a voyeur of other people’s life; however we still need synergy between others and ourselves.

this is a list of job positions, total 126 positions in order to accomplished an issue of vogue. going to make them in to product through the idea of jenga.
i asked 4 other sva students to contribute in my synergy project. i gave each drawing one topic, gave each person one color maker, and ask each one of them to draw their interpretation of the topic. i like the conversation between each artists. there will be more drawing, this is not final, just trying things out and get the project going. As for my writing project, it’s a little different. I am going to gather people’s conversation on the street, instead of asking them to write. It’s hard to explain without confusing you, i will show my progress in the following post.

i scanner doesn’t work with my old pc, so here is some pictures of my sketch.
i am very frustrated right now. i checked my computer repair status, it has delivered to apple store yesterday morning. i called them to see if i can go pick it up, the representative told me the “genius” will test my laptop, see if everything is fix, and i suppose to get a call this morning so i can go pick it up. nope, nada, did not hear a word about my macbook at all. sigh…
i will update once the meeting is over, i have been working on non-computer stuff, such as mock ups, basic structure on the actually product, and organize the feedback, etc.
by the way, there are only 70 days left to finish my thesis. from now on, i am going to add the count down number on each blog entry.
seems i don’t have a computer now, so i had to sketch like it’s 1980s. here are some quick sketches on logo exploration.
as i mentioned in last post, this is an update on my project idea. feedback is needed and welcome. by the way not having a computer sucks! let’s prey for my laptop, hope it will be back tomorrow.
as some of you might already known, i broke my computer out of frustration, i was in a rage that i couldn’t come up with a great project concept!! and that PC is too damn fucking slow! hello?
Just kidding, the graphic card of my macbook pro is broken. it’s now getting repair in some apple store (probably in jersey). hopefully i will get it back after the president’s day. but good news, i have met with paul, lindsay, and jessica separately this week. i will upload a revised project guideline tomorrow morning. now i am very excited about my projects!! happy tiger year!!! stay tune!
luckily before the snow really hit new york city, i went out to search for more inspiration products, these were found in a package book, muji and toy’r'us. so i categorize them in two categories–design and toys. after all, toys are also design as well…

Synergy Project will be a brand that create products which help and entertain people. Starting with my 25 Moments, and the documentation book, I have been creating projects that takes more then one part to function, projects that are based on synergy. I am interest in the end results more then the big idea. I feel like designing a lot of products that all communicate the same topic will make help me define synergy better.
Synergy Project is
-positive – helpful in some ways – entertaining – provide a way to have fun – humorous – multiple – combination of different products – 30 rock (tv show)- drag race (reality tv show)
it’s not
- serious – one – C.S.I Miami (tv show) – the biggest loser (reality tv show)
Objective:
To create new products. By using my products, people will realize synergy is everywhere. To have ownership of synergy projects. To be known as the Synergy Star.
I will create 5-10 products that are based on human interest. For example, human care about their look, so these products can be items that improve their appearance–physically or mentally. More importantly, all of the products will come with at least 2 items, and the line of products will be sell by conjoin figures.

this morning i spent lots of time brainstorming and researching. i am back to the beginning, finding what’s the core connection between synergy and graphic design.
so far i found couple good writing on wikipedia (don’t judge me), i will share them with you.

the funny thing is, i knew all of these, but i got so cut up on conceptual thinking and forgot about them. these are still vague on graphic design, but it does takes lots of synergy to do graphic design; in fact, graphic design itself is SYNERGY.

after a long night (and day) of sickness, i sketched out few things
i wanted to put all the projects in to one box so they all come together.
i started to think of ways to present them and what these projects means to a audience.

i wanted the audience to walk in a space of voltronergy. maybe all i am trying to do is create moments and experience for the audience and myself. each panel should be individual project. here are the basic guide lines of each project:
i started to think if there are 5 projects, should i try to put some concept behind them, such as the 5 senses–sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste. senses are the physiological methods of perception. and each of them synergies to make us understand the world. most of the project is based on visual (cuz this is about graphic design), i am not sure if add the sense concept will make voltronergy too complicate. what do you think?

the one below is really close to what i am thinking, something that will get bigger and bigger as i made more projects.
i have been sick the past weekend, bummer… besides that, i try to produce my first project through silkscreen, but i realized silkscreen takes too much time to produce one project, in the mean time, my epson 1400 is still a better choice. multitask, multitask, multitasking, keep that in mind.
and in the newest 30 rock episode, Liz Lemon said Miami = Synergy !! i guess in this gloomy weather, we should all go to Miami!!

as suggested from class, i will be working on individual projects that conveys ideas of synergy. each project may work on it’s own, or may not relate to one to another, but as a group, they will work together and be a bigger energy. i hope there will be as many as project i can make, but in reality, there will be 5 (or more). there reason why there’s only 5, its because less projects, i can concentrate on making each of them bigger and stronger. however, there might be addition projects.
i am starting to make a product for the 25 of things, and will decide what comes next, the ideal will be each project is an add on to the previous project, and brings back to the first project.

i didn’t do enough work yesterday and today. and shouldn’t spent money on unnecessary things (mostly clothes, but i haven’t shop for a while).

-i was rushing to go home today, when i came out of the elevator, a girl skip a step on the stairs and she fell, i didn’t help her to get up.
-when i was on the train, i was play bejewled on my ipod, and when i looked up, there was an old lady stood next to me, i didn’t offer my seat right away, then i offered her, and she shook her head said it’s okay, but i should have offer my seat right away.

-今天匆匆忙忙的離開學校時、一個女孩少踩了一閣樓梯、摔倒了、我當下應該馬上扶她起來的。
-在地鐵裡、我玩著我的ipod、抬起頭時發現有一位老太太站在我身旁、我沒有馬上讓位給她、但過了10秒鐘、我讓位給她、她跟我說沒關係。如果我有當下就讓位給她就好了。

i think i might be a little late on this, but this is an amazing piece of work. those beautiful monsters wouldn’t work on their own–it’s an awesome form of synergy.
