union square update
i’ve been binding this union square book in the past two days, here it is. overall i am satisfy with the result, but there are couple things need to be fix. like chris mentioned in my last post, there should be page numbers, i agree with that. also the paper stock i used is too heavy (65 lb), with perfect bond, it’s very hard to open that thick book. i also did the japanese binding, i couldn’t even lift a page, so i scratched out that option. my roommate suggested me do ring binding, but i will never do ring binding whatsoever, only if there is a way to find those ugly rings.

couple things needs help:
1. cover image or leave it the way it is?
2. need suggestion on ways to bind the book.
3. should i list all the questions and answers in a index page?
4. i am going to use thinner papers, would you prefer a thinner book or a thicker book?

I like the thickness you should keep it. Try to get some real firm prefect bound.

I kind of feel like they should be two totally separate books, bound separately and with a separate book cover, so that instead of one book with half pages, its actually two different books that come together to make something complete. I like the newer one more though.

cat, come over and you can touch it.
zun-zun, i like the thickness too.
grant, thanks for the advice. i thought of that when i was making them. maybe two separate books with half pages; top part is one book, and the bottom part is another book, so they need the other book to complete each other.

Nice. I like the thickness, but if it’s really too thick to work, than I would change it. Have you thought about spiral bound? You could probably get it black spiral bound somewhere very easily. It might already have it, but a little sentence or two explaining what it is, or how it’s read might help. And I really like the cover!

this is really beautiful! i must say, i agree with grant about the two small books coming together though. it may be a bit more difficult for it to function, but i think conceptually it would make more sense.

I like the cover and the fact that this is hard-bound. I think thickness might be an issue for you no matter what because of how many pages you have and their small size. The best option I can think of would really just be to do traditional binding with signatures. It’s not going to come apart and it will always open better than perfect bound.
